Healthy breakfast without added sugar
Sugar-free muesli recipe
You can garnish this basic muesli recipe with no added sugar with fresh fruit or nuts, for example. Since it contains no added sugar, it is perfect for your sugar-free breakfast.
How much sugar is in muesli?
Conventional muesli mixes, for example chocolate muesli, are often marketed as a “vital breakfast” or “fitness flakes”. But they still contain sugar. The sugar content is only mentioned in the small print.
As a rule, the sugar content per 100 grams of muesli in common muesli mixtures available in supermarkets is between 20 and 23 grams of sugar.
However, sugar often disguises itself with different names such as:
- glucose
- sucrose
- maltodextrin
- barley malt extract
Maltodextrin has no sweet taste, which is why it is often added to sugar-reduced foods.
But the carbohydrate maltodextrin also has a high sugar content. No added sugar means that a muesli contains only natural sweetness, e.g. from fruit, and no additional sugars have been added.
A healthy diet is low in refined sugars and fats. Mueslis with no added sugar are therefore healthier.

Granola & crunchy muesli
Granola in its basic form consists of baked oat flakes which are often combined with nuts, honey, muesli fruits such as blueberries or raspberries and seeds.
The granola, crunchy muesli and cornflakes sold in supermarkets often contain a lot of sugar. They are real sugar bombs (from 19 grams of sugar per 100 grams) and therefore not healthy.
Our granola is made from healthy ingredients with nuts, seeds and delicious fruits like raspberries. It is also great as a topping for our various porridges and contains 30-50% less sugar than conventional products.
Ancient grain muesli
Ancient grain muesli is made from whole wheat and whole oat breakfast cereals. This makes it rich in fiber.
Old grain varieties are still free from human intervention, which attempts to breed plants that are more resistant or higher-yielding.
Your body can thus make optimal use of it. We offer you an ancient grain muesli that provides your body with fiber and is better tolerated by the body than conventional grain.
Which muesli is really healthy?
Muesli is healthy if it contains no added sugar and has not been baked in (unhealthy) fat like some crunchy mueslis. Our Verival Granolas and Crunchys are therefore gently baked without fat; only the dough contains a little sunflower oil.
Organic mueslis without added sugar, such as VERIVAL's Bircher whole grain muesli or berry whole grain muesli, are healthy and also contain no palm oil.
Some manufacturers of organic muesli use palm oil, which is suspected of being harmful to health and damaging to the environment due to its cultivation in monocultures. 1 We therefore consciously avoid it.

Which muesli contains no sugar?
It is difficult to find muesli and cereals without added sugar in the supermarket. Manufacturers often advertise their muesli as low in sugar, but even they can't manage without sugar altogether.
In our range you will find muesli with no added sugar. Instead of using refined sugars, we sweeten our products with the natural sweetness of dates, blueberries, raspberries or coconut.
This way, you get a lower carb breakfast that tastes delicious and contributes to your well-being. Our muesli provides your body with lots of vitamins, fiber and energy.
Why is muesli without added sugar healthier?
A healthy breakfast contributes to higher productivity. Muesli with no added sugar is definitely one of them. Excessive sugar consumption can trigger various symptoms in the body, such as blemished skin, poor bowel health, headaches and a lack of energy.
The reason for this is the way the body handles sugar. To break down sugar, the body uses insulin.
The more you eat, the more insulin your body produces. Often there is an overproduction, which is why hypoglycemia can occur after the breakdown.
Excess insulin can also trigger inflammatory processes in the body and lead to obesity. Muesli mixes containing caramelized nuts or dried fruit should be consumed with caution.
Although they are declared as healthy, they often still contain a lot of sugar.
